Can you be an IP Champion?

The seeds of this case study stem from a WIPO brief to create a fun, educational resource on Intellectual Property, aimed at children and young adults. Initially conceived as a physical board game it eventually developed into a multi-language online game.

Pitching a game on this subject is undoubtedly a hard sell, particularly when aimed at students. So it was decided the best way to hold their engagement was to create personal investment. Working with WIPO we developed four culturally diverse characters, each with their own storyline and product that needed Intellectual Property protection. By covering the creative fields of music, fashion, filmmaking and science we could make them relatable for our target audience.

IP Challenge Game Characters

A multiple choice quiz mechanic would provide the game element. Each step of a characters journey would provide a dilemma that would involve trademarks, copyright, patents etc. Also with each step featuring an attractive animated illustration the desire to proceed would keep the user returning for repeat plays to edge closer to the end. Only by completing the four storylines could you become an IP Champion.
