The infographic generator was designed and developed for WHO's Department of Reproductive Health and Research. The brief was to provide an overview of national data relating to all aspects of sexual and reproductive health from the cradle to the grave. The challenge was to do it for 194 countries. The solution was to create a bespoke software package that could take this vast amount of data and output an attractive standardised document in multiply languages for all those countries.
As a project it was something we could really get our teeth into. From a design point of view, many rounds were spent fine-tuning infographics that summarised complex stats. We also had to create something flexible enough to allow for variations in formatting for multiple languages without compromising on a fixed layout.
The web application combines a number of technologies and API's. MODX is used to control the individual country admininsitration, Google Doc spreadsheets provide the data source. HTML templates are rendered on the server and past via an API to Cloudlayer.io to generate the final document.
Below is a short demo of how the generator software works.
